Not to mention the fact that we didn't actually get everything done that we wanted to in that phase. Those plans are <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2020/08/kids-guest-bathroom-plans-mood-board.html" target="_blank">here</a>. We knew at the time that adding another sink to the vanity would happen someday but didn't have concrete plans (that would be an excellent pun if we were planning on concrete countertops in the bathroom like the ones we did in the kitchen...except we're not). Fast forward to the now and our kids are bigger and double sinks would really, really help the morning routine go a little smoother so we've decided that there's no time like the present to get that ball rolling.</p><p>Here's basically what the bathroom looked like last week:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLcal4nqAD5GHMMyqAXVAxM9SrU_G_WCjPSxMcXGWpcnVNgUpDv4tLU1uYPvOfAW9BAip3AnGAVaAqP1YU26PSm-86kBwtpMo7Fp_1xJIu17W0p1hS5jd2G9S1nsQQN2mWUmlFubedF-IHVelMTXb-eTeFCtP2TBXwgt0D2AjIOzJ5NAiy16s-ecDoOa8t/s2587/bathroomtake2%20(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2587" data-original-width="1719" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLcal4nqAD5GHMMyqAXVAxM9SrU_G_WCjPSxMcXGWpcnVNgUpDv4tLU1uYPvOfAW9BAip3AnGAVaAqP1YU26PSm-86kBwtpMo7Fp_1xJIu17W0p1hS5jd2G9S1nsQQN2mWUmlFubedF-IHVelMTXb-eTeFCtP2TBXwgt0D2AjIOzJ5NAiy16s-ecDoOa8t/w426-h640/bathroomtake2%20(2).JPG" width="426"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I stole this picture from <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2020/10/kids-bathroom-reveal.html" target="_blank">a post</a> I wrote three years ago and it hasn't changed one bit - except maybe adjust the shower curtain so it's less hanging correctly and toss countless hair accessories on the counter for good measure.</div><p>But things are really changing now, not quite yet for the better but changing nonetheless because it looks like this today: <span></span></p><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2024/03/our-next-project-kids-bathroom.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3694300609096906230.post-6549747043758198342024-02-29T11:17:00.000-06:002024-02-29T11:17:03.300-06:00Storage Room Reveal!<p>Before we pop into the storage room to see how it all checked out, I'll just say quick that it definitely isn't one of our more glorious reveals (I think <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2018/05/the-big-little-kitchen-reveal.html" target="_blank">this one</a> still takes the cake), but there is still a pretty big leap from before to after. It's another one of those budget-friendly makeovers that we hold firm to, coming in at just under $180. It really helped that the large cabinet was a free hand-me-down, the shelves were already here, and the upper wall cabinet we moved in from the kitchen. It was on the wall we took down.</p><p>So, let's just start from the very beginning - the day we got the keys - the blank slate. If I told you I pulled this photo from a 1980s archive, you'd have no reason to doubt me.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7b7SLwyDeoJ1TX5-s45GMYam-O3w7CO0uW_VCxDscCPobYytfi9477a0ijrM8W-5LmDKA4nIpR14KdoLEosgz7TGC2toQDmBfcS7tY3qN8aMBT1FwohBDolJaId4EEEGO9BFNbBNEOircHH2grOyTJk_5zzLbZlPq_ssAP7_KJOtraAGDiuzmBJVjD2rw/s600/600%20IMG_9386.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="400" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7b7SLwyDeoJ1TX5-s45GMYam-O3w7CO0uW_VCxDscCPobYytfi9477a0ijrM8W-5LmDKA4nIpR14KdoLEosgz7TGC2toQDmBfcS7tY3qN8aMBT1FwohBDolJaId4EEEGO9BFNbBNEOircHH2grOyTJk_5zzLbZlPq_ssAP7_KJOtraAGDiuzmBJVjD2rw/w426-h640/600%20IMG_9386.jpg" width="426"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br>We moved in in 2019 and this is what this functioning corner looked like for many moons:<span></span></div><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2024/02/storage-room-reveal.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3694300609096906230.post-47733363925578263832024-02-24T06:50:00.000-06:002024-02-24T06:50:00.527-06:00Hardware + A Fun Cabinet Upgrade<p>There's lots of new hardware in the storage room (still thinking I need to come up with a much more charming name...ideas?). Well, maybe not but over here, I get excited about adding legs where there aren't any. <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2020/02/updating-old-dresser-makeover.html?m=1" target="_blank">Dressers</a>, <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2021/05/a-four-legged-nightstand-makeover.html?m=1" target="_blank">nightstands</a>, and now cabinets. It just seems to <i>take things up a notch</i>...get it, get it? <i><b>Up </b></i>a notch? ;)</p><p>Last year around this time I found three of <a href="https://shopstyle.it/l/b7QB7" target="_blank">these cabinets</a>* at Dirt Cheap for 15 bucks a pop. They're <i>technically</i> "upper" cabinets but with a little reinforcement, I figured I could use them as base cabinets since they were the perfect size for the kids' little drop zone in our storage room. They were priced as such because each has damaged backing, nothing major and who will notice that damage anyway?</p><p><b>Not a single human being.</b> For $45, I'm banking on it.</p><p>My then-pregnant self got them from the car to the house with some very careful dragging on a blanket and set them up so I could see what we were dealing with. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitVIO3HIsYJeKZuvcDAN5V-yv6c01R3DD_DVtvdIXBQQLhXYOvuQ4YCR7R4CacL1zZ0bvOzYJwxz_IOa7Qkmq-QuMPUzg10MBn8rAL44meZx1b2KD1kN2b9Q2ZH-MG0cvU0vkrD9MpWYordwmVg4HGSrxAlzXbym2KZdy1z7uRy3eWyKAFcvBDcBQ9AZKQ/s2016/IMG_8915%20(1).jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1512" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitVIO3HIsYJeKZuvcDAN5V-yv6c01R3DD_DVtvdIXBQQLhXYOvuQ4YCR7R4CacL1zZ0bvOzYJwxz_IOa7Qkmq-QuMPUzg10MBn8rAL44meZx1b2KD1kN2b9Q2ZH-MG0cvU0vkrD9MpWYordwmVg4HGSrxAlzXbym2KZdy1z7uRy3eWyKAFcvBDcBQ9AZKQ/w480-h640/IMG_8915%20(1).jpg" width="480"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It was a start...one that stayed put for a whole year. #storyofmylife</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span></span></div><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2024/02/adding-faux-legs-to-cabinets-diy.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3694300609096906230.post-51121626376129841082024-01-07T13:56:00.000-06:002024-01-07T13:56:35.689-06:00Hey There 2024<p>Are you like me, wondering where 2023 went?! It seem like we were just stepping off the 2022 Christmas season and experiencing some spring weather when all of a sudden, boom, Happy 2024! Or maybe it was the longest year ever for you and you're just happy to have made it. Either way, 2023 is out and 2024 is the new in.</p><p>2023 wasn't a great year for the blog. Our biggest project was birthed (<a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2023/04/hiatus.html" target="_blank">quite literally</a>) in February and it seems we took the rest of the year to recover and savor. While we did tackle a few small things around our home, <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2023/10/how-to-hide-electrical-outlet-diy.html" target="_blank">only one</a> made it into writing. We're ok with it though because it lets us start the new year with a healthy (low) standard that we can surely build on...</p><p>in between food storage clean up, of course. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2UR3BKXKuSP0ESgHpnVoTdZY2if68EVR_fKPAlwKr1Gi_pXcqEPF80ZG1pycXW4dcsTji8BgrRcSY3Bwm8aUAcgoXU3Ir2coU_K64BdA0OCABf0mysDo43g2YSGxRzsLHzuT7MqKCvIuJhJY6wJ_h0wRh8QMY-oiXiW5TAho5BSPtSdyjU0nLmurI3_L8/s2016/IMG_8850.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1512" data-original-width="2016" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2UR3BKXKuSP0ESgHpnVoTdZY2if68EVR_fKPAlwKr1Gi_pXcqEPF80ZG1pycXW4dcsTji8BgrRcSY3Bwm8aUAcgoXU3Ir2coU_K64BdA0OCABf0mysDo43g2YSGxRzsLHzuT7MqKCvIuJhJY6wJ_h0wRh8QMY-oiXiW5TAho5BSPtSdyjU0nLmurI3_L8/w640-h480/IMG_8850.jpg" width="640"></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://amzn.to/41JnU7z" target="_blank">rug</a>* (<---These types of Loloi rugs are my favorites for bathrooms and kitchens.)</div><p>We have a few "we can definitely get this done" projects on our docket this year.<span></span></p><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2024/01/hey-there-2024.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3694300609096906230.post-58889562464686025822023-11-13T10:47:00.002-06:002023-11-13T10:47:47.174-06:00A Dress Fit For a Tween<p>My twins have a little bin in their room that's stuffed to the brim of clothes that need to be altered to fit them (and so does their mom). *eye roll* We find something at a thrift store or somewhere that's super cute but too big and we toss it in, again, again, and again. But time eludes us, giving priority to school and sports...you probably know how it goes.</p><p>This weekend though, Phia and I found a minute (or 15) to grab something out of that bin to refashion. It's a dress my sister sent me during a closet purge that the girls love but that is obviously too big for them right now.</p><p>Obviously...</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdxN2YBoe8vBEEKFROdhMnhqHAefNeD6ZRswsCDXMBdz4hhKYP8ZucbOKU_kiniIBIZ22wrvb4_8yseSLGCz-p8aDFOCGzYihYeZFSGkwe-aYcPi1WBHn4uW__RWGJIl4R1Vjvk0Vu9RMLHDltTJ23EDOzXxZ8AKMB9FEGaNwxrAseGt-4tKlMYbT7MYWM/s1555/IMG_8645.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1555" data-original-width="1246" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdxN2YBoe8vBEEKFROdhMnhqHAefNeD6ZRswsCDXMBdz4hhKYP8ZucbOKU_kiniIBIZ22wrvb4_8yseSLGCz-p8aDFOCGzYihYeZFSGkwe-aYcPi1WBHn4uW__RWGJIl4R1Vjvk0Vu9RMLHDltTJ23EDOzXxZ8AKMB9FEGaNwxrAseGt-4tKlMYbT7MYWM/w512-h640/IMG_8645.jpg" width="512"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span></span></div><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2023/11/a-dress-fit-for-tween.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3694300609096906230.post-24607329815170440872023-10-10T13:56:00.001-05:002023-10-19T08:16:20.088-05:00How to "Hide" an Electrical Outlet | DIY<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Hey! Hahahaha...hahaha...ha...like I said, <i>new normal.</i> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This new normal has allowed for some quick and easy projects (emphasis on <i>quick and easy</i>) and one of those involves painting baseboards. You might remember that we <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/ClcSrKOrooM/" target="_blank">laid new floors</a> last Thanksgiving. They're still awesome and we still love them but we don't love the baseboards above them that we just haven't gotten around to painting...until last week, when I started the process in the dining room. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJtcgwsNSqChCFsnmHwEU90DixHGrbDOOawHY3HeENYaSegyv_qOA4buOEFi0DwmIASfuejvkci5Zd8Wn5Ge0dXnBerUbj4Su0mFDZ1MwctDZUdZFaX2dd98LwMCvCwakfSZbit38qoDuQrQ9AaIEj5iNK_oGd0bWDMa5MOvoVsxqDmVA2aDYvMlNEiPog/s2016/IMG_8193.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1512" data-original-width="2016" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJtcgwsNSqChCFsnmHwEU90DixHGrbDOOawHY3HeENYaSegyv_qOA4buOEFi0DwmIASfuejvkci5Zd8Wn5Ge0dXnBerUbj4Su0mFDZ1MwctDZUdZFaX2dd98LwMCvCwakfSZbit38qoDuQrQ9AaIEj5iNK_oGd0bWDMa5MOvoVsxqDmVA2aDYvMlNEiPog/w640-h480/IMG_8193.jpg" width="640"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm slightly ashamed of how long they've been the yellowy-beige color (we bought the house with them this color) but really only <i>slightly</i>. I've felt myself drifting towards painting all trim to match the wall color lately but I pre-painted the base shoe moulding before we installed it after the flooring went in and I really don't like spending time painting trim (it's the worst) so I'm not going to go back and repaint everything. Maybe some other day in the far future. What do you think? Are you team moulding is all the same color, different from the wall color or paint them both to match? It started out as something I tried in our first house down south years ago and since then, I've done it a few more times and I now won't ever deviate from <i>not</i> doing it. It's maybe a small matter in the grand scheme of painting cabinets but I feel like it's not so small in the impact it makes. </p><p><b>Hinges</b>. Specifically, like it gives away in this post's title, matching the color of your hinges to the color of your cabinets. I know that these days, most cabinets are made with hidden hinges so this is a moot point for most truly modern kitchens but if you've got old cabinets that you're hankering to paint or have already painted, take note. You might agree with me and you might not but here's my argument...</p><p>If you're doing a little kitchen makeover (or bathroom...or anywhere there are cabinets that could use a fresh coat of paint to modernize them), it's only natural to then replace the old hardware on them with new. New pulls and knobs go a long way in updating cabinets. You might even go a little farther and want to replace the hinges on the cabinets to match that pretty new hardware. Makes sense. It's logical. But here's where things could go two ways. You could get new hinges that match the hardware - you know, brushed nickel hinges to go with your new brushed nickel hardware - <i>OR </i>you could scrap that idea and either buy hinges that match the paint or paint them <i>to</i> match. If the color you're going with is black or white, you probably won't have the hardest time finding new hinges in those generic colors, making the switch fairly simple. But, if you're going with the latest trend of green, blue, tan, etc...you'll probably end up having to paint your hinges. Lucky for you, you can pretty much find every color of spray paint on the planet these days so finding a match may not be that difficult. (I'd recommend <a href="https://amzn.to/3EOJjCx" target="_blank">this primer</a>* first though along with several light coats. Opening and closing the hinges between coats also helps them not to stick in the process.)</p><p>Do I sound crazy? Or are you smelling what I'm cooking? Let me give you a few examples...this is the fun part. This whole idea of mine started here in our master bathroom back in our second house (click <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/p/our-current-nest.html" target="_blank">here</a> to get a whole tour): </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ3cauhkglV1ANLA4z2-fhQu6_PIz-UM9kvUmgFeJYkHfzBszvMHgiSiR6x3364IYntJgjnjVyy0G2xbRFTdGr0sbzHaMZ9Z8FrJ2mzz3f1EOll8hnq4OwHV4df4ft3iipaUQEcUGnWeoRncmW0e7cDMQm2pSZrd3mJrdP-O1kXV4j2vrqogXsLpJPRw/s600/IMG_8677.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="400" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ3cauhkglV1ANLA4z2-fhQu6_PIz-UM9kvUmgFeJYkHfzBszvMHgiSiR6x3364IYntJgjnjVyy0G2xbRFTdGr0sbzHaMZ9Z8FrJ2mzz3f1EOll8hnq4OwHV4df4ft3iipaUQEcUGnWeoRncmW0e7cDMQm2pSZrd3mJrdP-O1kXV4j2vrqogXsLpJPRw/w426-h640/IMG_8677.JPG" width="426"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br>It's hard to tell at this angle but it was the best I could find. But, as last week's errands would have it, there were four of them within the near vicinity of places I had to go and since I had a little extra time on my hands (well, borrowed of course from continuing painting the kitchen), I roamed...and these things are what I spotted...</p><p>(Pssst...if you're local to Mobile, I'll put the thrift store under each photo in case you have your heart moved and want to see if any of these are still there!)</p><p>This long tray was only a couple of bucks and would be a nice valet tray to set in a bathroom or atop a dresser in the bedroom to hold pretties and things. In a kitchen it would also make a great place to lay cooking utensils that are in use next to the stove.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwegaJGOEItRfVfLR5m_CEfATXuLuldoyvFSWjI8ApmahDkib_CcU2qd7kyDXzd_i0h_l4bQViTlcJCKpw4fUFy_6MSe8eEDX-PLJaxg6pQ1uoiWKrkIPbJGoGsvel5K_M4F--_3ki7Mg3bzJD-zREN0irTxnLS8wNbDDmhx2QTGRsjmcyDfouQm0Uww/s2016/IMG_6733.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1512" data-original-width="2016" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwegaJGOEItRfVfLR5m_CEfATXuLuldoyvFSWjI8ApmahDkib_CcU2qd7kyDXzd_i0h_l4bQViTlcJCKpw4fUFy_6MSe8eEDX-PLJaxg6pQ1uoiWKrkIPbJGoGsvel5K_M4F--_3ki7Mg3bzJD-zREN0irTxnLS8wNbDDmhx2QTGRsjmcyDfouQm0Uww/w640-h480/IMG_6733.jpg" width="640"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i>Goodwill on Azalea</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br><br>Are you a plant person? Each time, I learn a more efficient way, or a better way to get a smooth finish, or I use a new paint. So I can't say that I have an ironclad, tried-and-true method to painting cabinets but I can say that I've had great success in the arena. The same story follows the most recent endeavor of painting our current upper cabinets in the kitchen.</p><p>First, I removed all of the doors and the contents of the cabinets.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYoUzpcAIM_7xgSfRN7m1Z5N0i4jiTEhOAHUjkEY7aGoKfuuo8-bhWV9c1cMUlWHYt4AK3sIo0jhcUiosko6_dQg_S2micI4lPGJbMh9A-L_Iyz-rzm550z8m4KZh_9FaSf8XoO9xXkpX-NLl8IxnbW8K69QEtXme9vdJDhGcxypeC3BzbDilvotY6ew/s1000/IMG_0388.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="667" data-original-width="1000" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYoUzpcAIM_7xgSfRN7m1Z5N0i4jiTEhOAHUjkEY7aGoKfuuo8-bhWV9c1cMUlWHYt4AK3sIo0jhcUiosko6_dQg_S2micI4lPGJbMh9A-L_Iyz-rzm550z8m4KZh_9FaSf8XoO9xXkpX-NLl8IxnbW8K69QEtXme9vdJDhGcxypeC3BzbDilvotY6ew/w640-h426/IMG_0388.JPG" width="640"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvcbcqQWBsQ9F6P4Zyvn0GH__7PMsZuoajE3Gpd_XnDyLFQ8QJdbPDLFv6dIDHcNWmWsCmmmYgY3N9JJKaztatd5v__Ej47cVmoqqeCsf2iZQnPAfbRG_W9XnFTidW7Fv6XD3FNLx7_KK3eT4of7NT3hcTpMENtEvBVcOWc13pIIPcpp8896reMATGEg/s1000/IMG_0387.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="667" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvcbcqQWBsQ9F6P4Zyvn0GH__7PMsZuoajE3Gpd_XnDyLFQ8QJdbPDLFv6dIDHcNWmWsCmmmYgY3N9JJKaztatd5v__Ej47cVmoqqeCsf2iZQnPAfbRG_W9XnFTidW7Fv6XD3FNLx7_KK3eT4of7NT3hcTpMENtEvBVcOWc13pIIPcpp8896reMATGEg/w426-h640/IMG_0387.JPG" width="426"></a></div><br><p>I wanted to replace the old cabinet pulls with new knobs so the next thing we had to do was fill in the old hardware holes and drill new holes.<span></span></p><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2022/06/our-painted-upper-kitchen-cabinets.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3694300609096906230.post-54967308182201323662022-05-11T10:02:00.003-05:002022-05-11T10:06:00.242-05:00DIY Concrete Countertops - Finishing<p>Alright, where did we leave off on the concrete countertops? Oh yeah, the SINK! <i>I can feel that ugh feeling coming right on back...</i></p><p>(Pssst...click <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2022/04/diy-concrete-countertops-prep-pour.html" target="_blank">here</a> to read about the Part I of our new countertops.)</p><p>In our first post about the prepping and pouring, I wrote about how much of a pain it was to install the sink form. We hoped the pain would end once the concrete was poured but when we removed the form, we had all these big voids.</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9YBgYN3zGdUO9w5JrnUKY4fCysD5H0-0DRSR3nTi4lp02T05vTl-cmmnK2VmCST7-wK6-7fpj9lD7MlkKOefgjVnKBvHQlCf_7W3GbC5R6QOG9RKTxeDOaNcOjVjV9w4ODM0x3Shn5yry5h_Fn-JKJCoynfIfAcUUkaDsz4hicVFua6ZD6vvwp28niQ/s2016/IMG_5591.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1512" data-original-width="2016" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9YBgYN3zGdUO9w5JrnUKY4fCysD5H0-0DRSR3nTi4lp02T05vTl-cmmnK2VmCST7-wK6-7fpj9lD7MlkKOefgjVnKBvHQlCf_7W3GbC5R6QOG9RKTxeDOaNcOjVjV9w4ODM0x3Shn5yry5h_Fn-JKJCoynfIfAcUUkaDsz4hicVFua6ZD6vvwp28niQ/w640-h480/IMG_5591.jpg" width="640"></a></p><p>The frustration was real but we had to move on and start with the process of finishing the counters before we figured out how to make the sink look better. So, let's talk about the finishing and come back to the sink.</p><p>With the concrete completely dry (about five days after pouring), it was time to grind them down so the tops were smooth. Even with <a href="https://www.thespruce.com/screeding-floor-definition-1821747#:~:text=With%20concrete%20work%2C%20screeding%20is,a%20completely%20smooth%20final%20surface." target="_blank">screeding and then floating</a> the concrete after it was poured, the counters still felt rough to the touch, slightly more smooth than something like our sidewalk but definitely not smooth enough for a kitchen sponge to glide over.</p><p><span></span></p><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2022/05/diy-concrete-countertops-finishing.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3694300609096906230.post-56942758977741067472022-04-11T13:24:00.000-05:002022-04-11T13:24:28.275-05:00Easter / Spring Mantel<p>We are not so great at all-out decorating for every holiday, big or small. Christmas is the one holiday we do more than usual; this year we even managed to hang lights outside and we felt <i>really</i> accomplished. But holidays like Easter don't see much of a change around our casa. (I mean, Easter baskets sitting around and crosses already hanging on the walls count, right?) But this year, I pulled a <a href="https://www.bonnieengstrom.net/?s=mantel" target="_blank">Bonnie Engstrom</a> and decorated the mantel for Easter. It needed a good dusting last week and one thing led to another and by the end of cleaning the mantel shelf, I had a whole new set up.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2ISLbzgAAG3pmy-1UME7KXykfR9nAzvmEa0PIvp0av2C-RrIYjaOQNx-9FFoeSVxgU3q4atQe4C9nm1pmJFEtz-OBCIdc8xfN6cByjgZva_Zp73bzvyFfdAoT_2Ifo5orxc9fOBixv3eOJIhpOt64AVEofqIloClY9HzlJshC8hZdlcZrL1jFnJpOgQ/s1965/IMG_5745.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1474" data-original-width="1965" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2ISLbzgAAG3pmy-1UME7KXykfR9nAzvmEa0PIvp0av2C-RrIYjaOQNx-9FFoeSVxgU3q4atQe4C9nm1pmJFEtz-OBCIdc8xfN6cByjgZva_Zp73bzvyFfdAoT_2Ifo5orxc9fOBixv3eOJIhpOt64AVEofqIloClY9HzlJshC8hZdlcZrL1jFnJpOgQ/w640-h480/IMG_5745.jpg" width="640"></a></div></div><div><br></div>It doesn't scream bunnies and eggs (because in all honesty, I'm not a huge fan of that dang Easter bunny) but it's a simple nod to the reason for the season.<br><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span></span></div><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2022/04/easter-spring-mantel.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3694300609096906230.post-26303082391829936002022-04-01T06:09:00.000-05:002022-04-01T06:09:34.293-05:00DIY Concrete Countertops - Prep & Pour<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Last year, I wrote a post all about <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2021/05/more-kitchen-plans.html" target="_blank">our kitchen plans</a> and in that post I mentioned concrete countertops were on the docket. Well, we're slow (but sure!) and so if I wait and wait, you'll never get to see it. </p><p>We are most definitely not done but we've jumped and skipped, more like leaped and bounded, our way to modern-day kitchen in the past three years (almost three years on the dot, can you believe it?!)</p><p>I give you...progress:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZxL_Vj5Oj9FgNJ8RSxyKvCxGBRILBSWgGfzR_5C7vLqyhmB2ceI8tozont_FpzNtk9KiiPgykobQ7sYLkOAzrjYtfB8kTKQplgR0ukSlEi2roCoZIqvdWFiWNqcxz0JhPt_QblVeHNqXjbbWJZsFVi__xkqvNYgdzC8-L9gozF5zZWms6uiSezn_OcA/s1000/IMG_0412sharp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="667" data-original-width="1000" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZxL_Vj5Oj9FgNJ8RSxyKvCxGBRILBSWgGfzR_5C7vLqyhmB2ceI8tozont_FpzNtk9KiiPgykobQ7sYLkOAzrjYtfB8kTKQplgR0ukSlEi2roCoZIqvdWFiWNqcxz0JhPt_QblVeHNqXjbbWJZsFVi__xkqvNYgdzC8-L9gozF5zZWms6uiSezn_OcA/w640-h426/IMG_0412sharp.jpg" width="640"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div><p><span></span></p><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2022/03/an-overdue-kitchen-update.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3694300609096906230.post-30607323925882645562022-02-23T16:31:00.001-06:002022-02-23T16:31:25.797-06:00Comfort Gray<p> Hey!! It's been a couple of months since I popped on here. 👀</p><p>Blame it on the wonderful world of internet technology. In the 10+ years I've been blogging, I've never had any technical issues until the past few months. Every free minute I had to jump onto my computer to blog was spent dealing with blog issues. The internet changes everyday and to fix anything now, I feel like you have to take an entire college course to keep up. There were quite a few frustrating moments but thankfully, I think they're ironed out for the most part. </p><p>So, with twisted digits, I'm just going to go ahead and sweep all the technical stuff under the rug and dive into paint. <i>Hopefully it'll stay under that rug and just, well, disappear. </i> We've gotten a good chunk of home project progress down pat and I've got a big 'ole kitchen update to share soon but right now, I'm going to take it easy and share a tried and true paint color...</p><p>Comfort Gray </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEic5BTUmKvMTmOefG5DUQ4Rkl_KwARyYP6FViCMtu45Ffz2u0GDI7HmpYhGo9-LolS5TFYQvByJ_TXATnIWfFABEDyPPunNEJvjUH1jQXWKh4mebDa_Dr-3AhAJe7_HQUufdBHMyR3v7nmh3mMBWAPMGC5g7lv4BPWZrr7aVVrtOa-2uXPIOfGoIWOVsQ=s1280" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="959" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEic5BTUmKvMTmOefG5DUQ4Rkl_KwARyYP6FViCMtu45Ffz2u0GDI7HmpYhGo9-LolS5TFYQvByJ_TXATnIWfFABEDyPPunNEJvjUH1jQXWKh4mebDa_Dr-3AhAJe7_HQUufdBHMyR3v7nmh3mMBWAPMGC5g7lv4BPWZrr7aVVrtOa-2uXPIOfGoIWOVsQ=w480-h640" width="480"></a></div><br><p>The past couple of weeks, I spent about an hour each day painting trim and walls in our storage room/laundry nook/half bath area. This combo of three rooms plus a small hallway sits right off the breakfast nook and it's the only place that still had unpainted wood trim. That fact alone made it look like it didn't even belong in this house. I hate painting trim so much that I'm sure I've put this off lots and lots of times but I finally buckled down and went classic white on it. (By classic white I mean Pure White by Sherwin Williams color-matched to Valspar paint in a satin sheen - all of the trim in our house is this color.)</p><p><span></span></p><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2022/02/comfort-gray.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3694300609096906230.post-42773969487657922312021-12-20T08:45:00.002-06:002021-12-20T16:29:49.939-06:00Well, Arch You Cute<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh7z4eigLaBwh8jlKAb-UzEt3zneXjWwfPzw0HBpzEG7JGqKq6Dat3yFfa_U3HtRY0fGEo-o_ELv_fwA3Nww7FBTatdZqZL5wtsFIMl3P0pwnnzX3jajy96pf9Ke9D_h-o1xtdDEcapZx7GzSxeLeTwuGn55lhEbMQHZz2DK7LWJ-2SGnMpI5-zakikmg=s1200" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="800" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh7z4eigLaBwh8jlKAb-UzEt3zneXjWwfPzw0HBpzEG7JGqKq6Dat3yFfa_U3HtRY0fGEo-o_ELv_fwA3Nww7FBTatdZqZL5wtsFIMl3P0pwnnzX3jajy96pf9Ke9D_h-o1xtdDEcapZx7GzSxeLeTwuGn55lhEbMQHZz2DK7LWJ-2SGnMpI5-zakikmg=w426-h640" width="426"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br></div> A few months ago, I squeezed a little makeover in in the girls' room. The twins share a room now (the youngest two moved out into <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2021/01/room-reveal-playroom-to-bedroom.html" target="_blank">this cute room</a>) and I really wanted to make it more "them". They're not toddlers or little girls anymore and they get closer to being bonified big girls everyday...ok, they <i>are</i> big girls - major denial over here...and so I wanted to make their room something cute and happy and whimsical and all those fun words.<p></p><p>We started with the rug that was already in there and the blank white walls, added some bold velvet curtains, and some pattern to the dresser, and then I took a page from <a href="https://vintagerevivals.com/diy-painted-rainbow-arch-wall-pattern/" target="_blank">Mandi's book</a> and painted some arches on their walls. Initially, I was going to go more bold and paint hearts all over their walls (just like the <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2018/10/watercolor-diamond-walldiy.html" target="_blank">diamonds</a> I painted in <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2018/11/gender-neutral-kids-room-reveal.html" target="_blank">the kids old shared room</a>) but they really, really wanted arches over hearts. <i>Ok girls, it's your room. Arches it is.</i></p><p><span></span></p><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2021/12/well-arch-you-cute.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3694300609096906230.post-30236946258171693952021-12-09T10:40:00.001-06:002021-12-09T13:44:40.161-06:00How To Make a Rug Stay In Place<p>Rollin' in here quick with a spotty internet connection to tell you a little bit about a rug and how it was driving me nuts.</p><p>Last year, when I did a <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2020/10/kids-bathroom-reveal.html" target="_blank">quick little makeover</a> on the kids' bathroom, I laid down <a href="https://amzn.to/3oBR7iO" target="_blank">this rug</a>* to top everything off.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIBhlAR0PftmYr_mr0F0dnCWWqpRvvQpdZfJEDuOiLWuRSdD1SDAq2vutLcEnN7vtWUW1OLJfVbfkQMlSpXAgbr2B9QWZzgUA_OdATFX3IFtGCOoD3UXaheGkdyL3A6Oexpi2oNKWj5NyQ/s812/banda.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="588" data-original-width="812" height="464" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIBhlAR0PftmYr_mr0F0dnCWWqpRvvQpdZfJEDuOiLWuRSdD1SDAq2vutLcEnN7vtWUW1OLJfVbfkQMlSpXAgbr2B9QWZzgUA_OdATFX3IFtGCOoD3UXaheGkdyL3A6Oexpi2oNKWj5NyQ/w640-h464/banda.jpg" width="640"></a></div><br><p>Still love, love, love the rug but don't love, love, love how much it slid around.<span></span></p><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2021/12/how-to-make-rug-stay-in-its-place.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3694300609096906230.post-69807453441541163032021-10-29T16:06:00.002-05:002021-10-29T16:06:31.354-05:00Save My Seat<p> Or, rather, seatS. From my kids. And maybe from myself too. </p><p>We bought <a href="https://amzn.to/3CrZOkg" target="_blank">these chairs</a>* several years ago when I was going through a big mid-century phase (haven't quite grown out of that one yet because it's a w e s o m e). I found two of them at Dirt Cheap and two more on Amazon Warehouse - each pair a different color but at the time, I didn't mind because they were so cheap. <i>Sometimes logic leaves me when I see a good deal, what can I say? </i>So one pair had a gray upholstered seat and the other, an ivory seat. The gray held up, the ivory? With kids? Chairs that we use every single day during meals? Not so much.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisAVoSnt0KJjskOgdP3Ell08p-CyRTmQKObvl5fUdOZdXtIY0MK0n0hJLjGMAA95efhnxPg7pHYwWzjNi0sklVmCEjAZSZPXnr8R8GOFa9XJ60W0PGgN6TjUqA4Bbsi4SsOTZT7ifthNYQ/s1000/IMG_0381.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="667" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisAVoSnt0KJjskOgdP3Ell08p-CyRTmQKObvl5fUdOZdXtIY0MK0n0hJLjGMAA95efhnxPg7pHYwWzjNi0sklVmCEjAZSZPXnr8R8GOFa9XJ60W0PGgN6TjUqA4Bbsi4SsOTZT7ifthNYQ/w426-h640/IMG_0381.JPG" width="426"></a></div><br><p><span></span></p><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2021/10/save-my-seat.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3694300609096906230.post-11818834521625103352021-09-27T13:13:00.002-05:002021-09-27T13:13:46.960-05:00We Just A-Door It<p>The craziest thing happened to us last year. We made all these plans for the front of the house (read more about them <a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2019/04/curb-side.html" target="_blank">here</a>) and before we told a single person what they were, a friend texted to say they were getting a new front door, would we want their old one?</p><p>Not so unusual or crazy, right? Except she also sent a photo of that door and immediately, I had to pinch myself and blink 39575 times to make sure I wasn't seeing anything unreal. It was almost exactly like the door in our plans. I mean, what are the chances?!</p><p>Heart-racing, I made Anthony drop everything and go over to measure to see if it would work and HUZZAH, it was the same size as our current front door (not so crazy since doors come in standard sizes). He brought it home to his very excited wife, set it in our outdoor storage room, and...there it sat...for over a year.</p><p>We've never changed a front door so maybe that was part of why it sat for so long - intimidation - and probably it was also because we have four small children and lives way beyond swapping out doors but either way, we finally pulled that thing out two weekends ago and started the process of getting some more curb appeal up in here.</p><p>Sadly, in case you were wondering how to, I didn't take any pictures of how we replaced the old with the new nor am I going to take any of those pictures I didn't take and write up a tutorial because, like I said above, we've never done this before. We went into it thinking it would probably be a project that <i>seems</i> easy but when you actually start it, it isn't at all and that's exactly what it ended up being. It took us the majority of two consecutive Saturdays to hang our new door - take down the old, remove the hinges and knobs, run to Lowe's, route out new hinge spots on the new door, go back to Lowe's, rework the door jamb, run quick to Ace Hardware, put hinges on the new door, and finally, hold your breath and hope it all worked out as you <i>hang the new door and hope to goodness it closes right!!!</i></p><p>Spoiler alert: it did!</p><p>I'll show it to you in a second but to appreciate the new even more, let's backtrack to what the front of the house looked like when we moved in, courtesy of a realtor photo:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1iOk1HfJ3Qd33oYsy-1T4pgIwjh2wUPzr199R9JqyTMlaZJexg3N6ezidXqclFTYBvuYpavKLY9Qh_EVkZSYI63K8TzqMqTTqEs7eEjB3vtFidYjMY9h2N2N2UoMAMuQ-upBHGTfrvExy/s2048/house+up+close+before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1862" data-original-width="2048" height="582" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1iOk1HfJ3Qd33oYsy-1T4pgIwjh2wUPzr199R9JqyTMlaZJexg3N6ezidXqclFTYBvuYpavKLY9Qh_EVkZSYI63K8TzqMqTTqEs7eEjB3vtFidYjMY9h2N2N2UoMAMuQ-upBHGTfrvExy/w640-h582/house+up+close+before.jpg" width="640"></a></div><br><p><span></span></p><a href="https://www.beaninloveblog.com/2021/09/we-just-door-it.html#more">Read more »</a>Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18242163910223367532noreply@blogger.com2
