A couple of months back in this post about our new screened-in patio, I mentioned we had found some bamboo furniture that would be making it’s home in there. It’s a sofa and loveseat set that we bought off a local resale site for $40. They’re super sturdy but the bamboo needs a little love in places and a good sanding + coat of poly. I just finished washing all of the cushion covers and foam inside and now it’s time to get to recovering. But, I need your help.
You see, we don’t really need the loveseat. We really just wanted the couch but for $40 for both, we couldn’t say no to taking both, thinking we could fix up and resell the loveseat. So, that’s the plan. Here’s the loveseat:
Here’s my question to you though - should I toss the back cushions in leui of large pillows like these:
Or should I just stick with the existing cushions and add a couple of small throw pillows?
I know it’s really hard to look past the fabric. It’s ugly, I know. I’ll be swapping all of that dated floral for something more neutral. These are really bad but maybe a quick editing will help:
Not that it matters too much, but here’s what the back looks like sans cushions:
I’m asking you guys because, in order to sell this thing, I need to go with a general consensus instead of my own personal taste. If you would be so kind, please vote below with what you think my best option is as far as the back cushions go.
I’m leaning towards the pillows because I think it makes the whole thing look a look more 21st century but then tomorrow I’ll sway back to the original cushions with toss pillows. Decisiveness obviously isn’t my strong suit…
Thanks friends!!
Love the second option with the pillows instead of the cushions!
ReplyDeleteIt looks to me like it would be cramped to sit with the throw pillows, so I chose the original.

ReplyDeleteI liked the light stripey pillows + cute accent pillows. Since the back is neat I think it would be okay to have something that moves around a bit, too.
ReplyDeletePillows! SO much more modern! (Not modern the style... I guess I mean "current"?)
ReplyDeleteI personally like the look of the pillows but voted for original cushions because I think more people would prefer that so you'd have an easier time selling. Someone can always switch to pillows later on but it would be hard to find cushions that fit if they bought with the pillows and decided to go the other way.
ReplyDeleteOh, you're smart and so right Mandi! The original won out in votes but this makes so much sense that I might've swayed back to them anyway after reading this! :)
DeleteCan you do a tutorial on recovering and washing couch cushions? I can sew but I'm so intimated by recovering furniture.
ReplyDeleteYes! The wood couch I just did was good practice so now I feel more comfortable to write up a how-to. :)
